Plastic Smiles

By Aubrey Marcus February 05, 2021

Plastic smiles
Hollow eyes
Pursed lips.

An awkward shift
Of suggestive hips
While the camera roll
Captures the shell
But not the soul.

How did it come to this?
That hearts on a screen
Stole your heart.

My sisters
Botox and saline
Extensions and chlorine
Are decorations for your costume.
Play with them all you like.

Just remember
they are not who you are.

You are a woman.
Wild and free.
Magical and kind.

You’re only in competition
With your own mind.
You win every time,
By just being you
